Q: What is permanent hair color?
A: Permanent hair color uses a dye molecule that works with hair’s natural color to enhance the way it looks or to create an entirely new color. It gives you a vast array of options for creating a new look.
Q: What is demi-permanent hair color?
A. Demi-permanent hair color is applied on top of your hair’s natural pigment, and will slowly fade away without any lines of regrowth. While it cannot lighten your hair, it can enhance faded color as well as darken your hair’s natural color. It is a conditioning color that will give your hair an incredible shine!
Q: What is semi-permanent hair color?
A. Semi-permanent hair color is perfect for those who are new to dying or haven’t tried it before. Offering a subtle change in shade, this type of color isn’t deposited inside the hair shaft, but is used to coat the outside. It washes out in six to twelve shampoos, and is fantastic for enhancing natural highlights and creating a lighter tone. Demi-permanent dye is a better choice for covering grays, however.
Q: Will permanent hair color wash out?
A: Permanent hair color goes inside the hair shaft, and thus cannot be rinsed or washed out. Although it will not completely rinse out, the color can dull or fade without proper care.
Q: What is Chromatics hair color?
A: Chromatics is a permanent non-ammonia hair color that is scentless. As the only hair color with an oil delivery system, it’s able to strengthen and condition hair, allowing you to leave the salon with not only a new color, but also healthier, shinier hair.
Q: Will Chromatics cover gray hair?
A: Beyond Cover is a line within Chromatics that specializes in covering gray hair. Chromatics is an excellent choice for complete gray coverage.
Q: What are highlights?
A. Highlights are used to provide existing hair color with extra luster, frame the face, and give locks additional dimension. This is done by dying carefully selected sections and pieces of hair a few shades lighter than the base color, or even a completely different hue.
Q: What are lowlights?
A. Lowlights are the direct opposite of highlights, but are similar in that they also add richness and depth to hair. This technique involves taking strands of varying width, and coloring them a shade or two darker than the base color. As a result, hair will appear fuller and thicker.
Q: What are babylights?
A. Babylights are a beautiful new take on traditional highlights. Resulting in a natural, youthful brilliance, hair is colored in extremely fine pieces with very little space between them. This is a great, low-maintenance alternative to highlights, as babylights grow out to look soft and subtle.
Q: What is ombre hair color?
A. Ombre hair color creates a stunning and unique blend of shades. Generally, this technique incorporates a darker tone from root to mid-shaft, at which point strands become gradually lighter toward the ends. Typically, this is done using the balayage method, and is another fantastic example of low-maintenance color.
Q: How do I prevent hair color from fading?
A. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to protecting your hair color’s vibrancy. UV rays are a major cause of fading, so it’s smart to wear a hat or scarf on sunny days. Try using an umbrella if you’ll be sitting outside for long periods of time. Shampooing less and rinsing with cool water will help as well. It’s best to use a moisturizing, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for preserving color. Ask your colorist for suggestions!
Q: What’s the best way to get the color you desire?
A. Our stylists understand how important it is to build a relationship with their clients. It’s the number one rule for making sure you leave our salon with the look of your dreams. As a client, you can help us make this happen! Bringing pictures to your appointment is a fantastic idea. Whether it’s an image of an old hair color you loved, examples of what you don’t want, or your favorite celebrity – the saying is true! A picture is worth a thousand words.
Q: Does coloring damage the hair?
A. To a certain extent, yes. But don’t worry! Professionally done hair color is worlds apart from the damage that drugstore dyes can do. Our salon uses the highest quality formulas and gentlest processes to ensure minimal harm is done. Ask your colorist for tips on products and styling to gain further protection, as well.
Q: Can pregnant women color their hair?
A. There is a lot of conflicting information out there regarding whether it’s okay to color your hair during pregnancy. Most dyes are considered safe, but some of the chemicals can be absorbed through the skin, so there may be an amount of risk involved. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s always best to consult with your doctor and make an informed decision.
